Tolt Middle School Counseling

What? 

The Tolt Middle School Counselors provide a comprehensive counseling and guidance program to facilitate positive student outcomes in the three areas of social / personal skills, education, and career development.  We support students in becoming responsible and productive citizens..

How?

Responsive Services:   Problem-solving, communication skills, study skills, motivation, social skills, organization, self-control, drug / alcohol issues, loss and grief, and family changes are some of the topics for school counseling.  School counselors provide individual and group counseling, consultation and referrals.

Classroom Guidance: 

• Harassment & Bullying-all students receive a fall presentation on defining harassment and how to handle conflicts, harassment and bullying.

• Student Success Skills-a five session program presented in the 6th grade classrooms teaching students about goal setting and progress monitoring, contributing to an encouraging classroom, cognitive strategies, skills for handling stress and anxiety, and developing an optimistic outlook.  Booster sessions are presented in the 7th and 8th grade classrooms with additional test-taking skills.

• Career Awareness-a career unit in the 7th grade focusing on learning about careers through the WOIS website.  Students learn how to research a career and connect what they are doing today with success in the future.  The 8th grade unit includes an interest inventory and further career exploration which transfers to CHS.

System Support: Transition activities, 504 plans, Safe and Drug Free Schools Committee, coordination of the SafeNet program, coordination of the Prevention Intervention Specialist services, and scheduling.

When?

Students can come to the counseling center before or after school, or at lunch and ask for an appointment.  Parents can call or e-mail to request services.
