INDEPENDENT READING LOGS and Parent
Signatures
Language Arts students will be recording their Agendas at the bottom of each
day's column. Independent Reading Logs are worth 10 points per week for 60
minutes of reading.
They will be required to read anything as long as their reading adds up to
one hour per week. That is roughly 12 hours for 5 nights or about 10 minutes
each night for 7.
Students may read anything they choose, but they must record it in the log
for points. They will need to enter the title, the pages and the minutes. (More
on content later!)
This is worth 10 points per week. That adds up to about 120 points per
quarter and could mean the difference between whole letter grades.
AGENDA GRADING BEGINS THIS WEEK!
Each Monday now for the remainder of the year we will check Agendas for
Parent Signatures. Your student only needs ONE parent signature on ANY DAY of
the previous week. This is to help establish the habit of conversations about
school events, homework, assignments and concerns. Please sign the bottom of
your student's agenda once per week. This is worth 5 points per week (60 points
per quarter) that will help boost grades and good organizational habits.
This year we will be using Composition Notebooks for journals and NOT
spiral notebooks.

These notebooks are much smaller, less expensive and easier to store and use
in the classroom.
Loose-leaf notebook paper will be required for student use for all regular
assignments in both Language Arts and Social Studies.
