Rock Power Point Reports

Science EALR 1

Systems:             The student knows and applies scientific concepts and principles to understand the properties, structures, and changes in physical, earth/space, and living systems.

Component 1.3   Changes: Understand how interactions within and among systems cause changes in matter and energy

GLE 1.3.4      Describe the processes involved in the rock cycle (e.g., magma cools into igneous rocks; rocks are eroded and deposited as sediments; sediments solidify into sedimentary rocks; rocks can be changed by heat and pressure to form metamorphic rocks).

Scenario:

You are a group of Geologists.  The University of Washington has asked your class to give a presentation to college students, taking a geology course, on rocks. Your group will present information to students in the course on one type of rock. In your presentation you must provide information that will answer the following question:

Essential question

How will you explain and visually represent the formation of your rock?

       Guiding Questions

1.       What rock group and type will your group give a presentation on?

2.     How is the rock formed? How is the rock classified?  (Use a diagram to visually represent the process/cycle)

3.     What is the type of your rock and some related rocks?

Process:

1.  You will use your textbook, the internet and notes taken from your textbook to create a 5 page PowerPoint presentation with your group.  See sample format.

2. After you have completed collecting and recording information on your notes you need to fill out a PowerPoint story board.  Get them from your teacher.

3. Finally when your storyboard has been approved by your teacher you may begin, as a group, on your PowerPoint project.
