People on the Move!!

 

Scenario: 

 

The company that your aunt and uncle work for is transferring them to work in another country. You and your family will be living outside the United States for a minimum of two years. You have a choice between moving yourself and your family to one of two countries. You will decide which country would best suit your family needs and interests. Using specific details, explain why your family decided to move to this country.

 

Essential Question:

 

Why did you choose to move your family to_________________ instead of _________________?

 

Explain why your family is moving to this country. Write a detailed explanation based on the needs of your family. You are to research two countries. You will be responsible for your explanation/paragraph.

 

Procedure:

1.   Familiarize yourself with your family by reading all information in your assigned Family Folder.

 

2.   Your teacher will assign you two countries to research.

 

3.   Fill out the Family Needs Worksheet.

1.   Use the Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast similarities and differences of each country to help you answer the essential question.

 

2.   Use a Venn diagram to record a minimum of 5 differences and 2 similarities for your countries on the following factors:

Physical Features/Factors

Economic Features/Factors

Cultural Features/Factors

 

Please note: You will have a total of THREE Venn diagrams

 

3.   Compare the Family Needs activity sheet and Venn diagrams to make decisions about which country you will be moving to. Highlight five or more pull factors for your move on the three Venn diagrams. At least one pull factor must be chosen from each diagram.

 

4.   Answer the essential question. Choose one of the three features listed above. Use Jane Shaffer format to answer the essential question.

 

5.   Use your Venn diagrams, Family Folder, Family Needs worksheet, and Jane Shaffer paragraph information to create a PowerPoint presentation. (Sample PP)

 

9. Present your comparison of two countries. (Include your response to the essential question in a PowerPoint presentation to your class) .
